Under 7/8 BlogPosted by David Hurst Mon, March 29, 2010 10:02:36The Truro under 7s played 2 matches against Wadebridge away on March 28th. They won both matches comfortably 8:6 and 6:4.
From the start of the first match the U7s demonstrated they
had learnt from their training drills: maintaining straight lines, passing
exceptionally well and tagging aggressively. These matches were their best of
the season.
Charlie Chilcott was on fire from the first finishing no
less than 6 tries in the first game. Lewis frequently took possession passing
to the scorer at the key moment, also scoring one for himself. Dan Brig was also
hungry for the ball thought out the game, and was rewarded for this commitment
with a try in the first game. George made an outstanding run down the
right-hand side of the pitch tragically tagged just before the line. Max and
Rocky showed great supporting play throughout.
Dan Tinney was the main scorer in the second in the second
game achieving a hat trick. Callum and Liam also scored one each. Perry made a
number of spirited runs, passing as if he was playing in the U8s. As usual, Josh Margetts and Morgan were all
over the pitch tagging well and showing great team play.
Charlie Chilcott was awarded man-of-the-match, and Dan
Tinney was recognised as most-improved-player.
Under 7/8 BlogPosted by David Hurst Mon, March 29, 2010 10:01:25The Truro U8s played Wadebridge twice on March 28th at Wadebridges's home
ground. They won the first game 8:7 and lost a short second game 3:1.
Imogene was particular sharp in the first game skilfully
darting between the opposition players to score 2 tries. As usual, Charlie Kent
was everywhere making opportunities and finding space, scoring twice in the
first game. Finn was committed as usual displaying his characteristic running
style creating confusing amongst the defenders. He also made the longest pass
of the game looping over half a dozen Wadebridge players to a
characteristically alert Charlie. Henry was usually switched-on scoring 2 tries,
the second after battering through the opposition to the try line. Jack and
Josh were to be found in the thick of the action and both tagged and passed
well. Daniel Godley drove through the opposition whenever he got the ball. He
will be an even greater asset to the team in the contact game next year. William
Turner scored an excellent try.
Imogene was made a well deserved man-of-the-match, and Henry
Hurst was awarded the most-Improved-player.

Score Liskeard 8 : Truro 8
Scorers Joshua (3), Daniel (2), Charlie B (2), Lewis
The second match Truro team consisted of: Charlie B, Joshua
Margetts, Hugo, Daniel, Liam, Joseph, Matthew, Tom, and substitute Lewis.
The first half kicked off with Truro playing uphill, but
that didn’t stop Joshua running in a try almost immediately. Liskeard, though
were in fighting form and another eight tries were scored over the next ten
minutes, with Truro’s coming first from Charlie, and then a brace for ‘black
hat’ Daniel, to end the half Liskeard 5 Truro 4.
Coming out for the second half at 11:52, revved up and
playing downhill, Truro were aiming to make up the deficit and Joshua did so in
the first minute. Liskeard scored twice in the next three minutes, but this was
then matched by Truro with Joshua and Charlie scoring in quick succession, bringing
the score back to even, and making for a thrilling finale. Liskeard broke
first, scoring to make it 8-7, but Lewis wasn’t going to stand for that and
equalled the final score to 8-8.
A great effort by the U7’s, with everything starting to
come together, and a never give up attitude - keep up the good work.
The Most-Improved-Player awardwent to Liam.

Liskeard 5 : Truro 10
Scorers Morgan (5), Finn (2), Jack, Joshua and William
The U8 Truro team consisted of: Charlie K, Finn,
Morgan, Joshua Moses and Jack, assisted by Toby Peters and Lewis playing out of age group.
First blood went to Truro with Morgan scoring, followed by
Liskeard making a great run in to level the scores, only for Morgan to make an
excellent jinking run and score his second in the fifth minute. Two minutes
later and Finn made an unstoppable straight run down the touchline to score his
first in the seventh minute. Morgan then added another to the score sheet, with
Lewis and Charlie providing some outstanding support play. Finn was again in
good form blasting through in a straight line, and giving a final pass to
Morgan to score in the twelfth minute, ending the half Liskeard 1 Truro 5.
The second half kicked off at 11:20, with Truro playing down
hill, but with Liskeard upping their game and scoring first with a very fast
run in, in the second minute. There then followed a real end to end game with
Jack scoring straight from the restart, followed by Liskeard doing the same.
Joshua then made a good solo run to score, followed by Finn making another
straight run over almost the full length of the pitch to score his second.
Liskeard then got one back, only for Morgan to come straight back and score his
fifth try of the match. Finally, it was William’s turn to get his name on the
score sheet, followed by Liskeard getting the final try of the match.
All in all it was a season best from Truro, lots of straight
running, some superb support play, and great defensive tagging – well done lads,
an excellent performance.
‘Man of the Match’ went to Finn.
‘Most Improved Player’ went to William.
Under 7/8 BlogPosted by David Hurst Wed, December 23, 2009 11:25:12The Truro under 7s played Launceston this week at home. The
opposition arrived late after a difficult journey through harsh weather up
country. However, they were keen, so they insisted on 2 games for both the U7s
and U8s leading to a very late finish.
Launceston narrowly won the first game 5:4, but Truro
triumphed in the second with a 5:3 victory.
In the first game, Lewis Bostock showed true grit in the
teeth determined opposition. His looping runs and commitment were rewarded in
the second game with a try. Dan Tinney scored the second and forth in the first
game, and another in the second game. His first try completed a remarkable
combination of passes between Perry Oakes, Toby Peters, and another player that
was difficult to identify in the melee.
Charlie Chilcott surprised the crowd in the first game, by
side stepping the whole Launceston team and running three quarters of the pitch
close to the touch line to score the 3rd try. He also scored the fourth
in the second match.
All the U7s tagged well throughout both games, but the
man-of-the-match was Toby Peter who displayed the athleticism we expect from
the Peters family running almost the full length of the pitch to score the second
of his three tries. He also passed well to assisting his team mates succeed. Toby
also played in the second U8 games scoring there too. Tom Finlay took the award
for most improved player in recognition of his excellent supporting play and
determined approach.
Under 7/8 BlogPosted by David Hurst Wed, December 23, 2009 11:24:19The Truro under 8s also played 2 matches again Launceston. Launceston
won both games (5:3 and 8:7), although Truro were very unlucky not to win the
second. The crowd were behind them, and they were leading up until the last minute.
The whole team tagged and passed extremely well throughout both matches, but
particularly in the second game.
Imogene Tyler was the most alert player in the first game,
scoring the second try and supporting her team mates ably with her speed and focus.
She was a popular winner of the man-of-the match award as a relative newcomer
to the game.
Lachlan was denied his try in the first game for a minor
infringement. This was a shame, because the disallowed try crowned an
impressive run from the middle of the pitch. Cameron Milne demonstrated first
class passing and his usual determination, scoring the second try in the second
game.
Morgan Durant had an outstanding second match
scoring 4 tries. He also scored an excellent try in the first match. Hungry for
the ball throughout, he also tagged well and bravely returned to the pitch
after getting injured in the second match.
Under 7/8 BlogPosted by David Hurst Fri, October 09, 2009 22:54:57The U7 Truro team formed up in lines from the start and
focused intently on gaining possession of the ball, showing they had learnt
from their coaching sessions. Dan scored the first and last try to earn him man
of the match trophy. He almost scored a third running half the length of the
pitch before being tragically tagged.
Joe Phillips had a great debut performance, his resolve to
succeed evident from the off. Alex Berger also amazed his team mates with the
length of his looping run on his first match with the team. Tom Finlay scored 2
great tries and was rewarded with the U7 most improved player award.
In short. the Truro
under 7s also had a very good day carried along by the outstanding leadership
of the U7 coach, Chilcott Senior who struck envy in the eyes of most parents
with his ability to run around for 30 minutes with 8 seven year olds without
stopping to draw breath.
Well done all.
Under 7/8 BlogPosted by David Hurst Fri, October 09, 2009 22:53:50The Truro under 8s Lions confidentially took to the field in
the face of a substantial crowd. Cameron proved to be a natural Captain driving
his team mates to do their best. He was in the thick of the action throughout
the game -- constantly hungry for the ball. He is sure to do well this year.
The team tagged well, and Josh Moses made a number of good
runs, but in the end the Newquay defence was too much for them and they were
unable to get through. The team were roused at half time by an excellent pep
talk from David Moses returning to the field with renewed energy. Josh Rowe
made a couple of further spirited runs supported by the team, and well deserved
his U8 man of the match award.
