Bodmin 13
It's fair to say that the rain, hail and wind won this match! After a well observed minute's silence on Remembrance Sunday this match kicked off into the teeth of a gale coming across the top of the Penair School pitches. Sam Jewitt and Chris Beech scored before a serious injury to a Bodmin player brought the game to a temporary halt. Charlie Pendarves scored next, John Robbins converting, but an air of over confidence took over the home side and Bodmin replied with a converted try and Penalty. After the break Bodmin again scored a penalty, Truro looking as though the game was 'in the bag'. A few stern words were said, and to be fair the lads took the criticism onboard; indeed, many wise words came fom the senior players themselves, "to knuckle down". Hilly Murrell scored off the bench and then a beautiful set piece move saw acting Full Back Sam Teasdale score, Robbins converting with a drop kick. Ollie Seagrove stormed over and the day's scoring concluded with skipper Chris Beech bagging a second. Sadly, in the run up to the try Chris hurt his wrist and reports from A&E suggest he has broken his scaphoid - we are all sorry to hear this. The team will train next Sunday if there is no match against Saltash.

Effingham & Leatherhead 3
Truro hosted major London outfit, the Effingham & Leatherhead Eagles, at St Clement Hill on the first day of their school Half Term tour. County commitments and “cry-offs” meant this was only the second full fixture for the hosts this season, and that showed in the first half as the lads struggled to play with their usual shape and structure. Accordingly, the rather dour first half ended 3 points apiece, John Robbins converting a Penalty Goal for Truro. A frank half time team talk majored on better discipline and more aggressive play from the pack to win some decent first and second phase ball for the backs to exploit - and that seemed to do the trick! Truro exploded into the restart and within 3 minutes Matt Tregay scored, Robbins again converting. With a regular supply of decent ball now secured, the home backs looked explosive. The centre pairing of athletic Hilly Murrell and feisty Chris Beech always threatened to open up the opposition defence, regularly crossing the gain line to good effect. But these boys know how to deliver ball and space to their wingers and the wide-men Kit Winchester and Ciaran Barry both bagged a brace - Kit with his quick, mesmerising feet and Ciaran with his bulk and power. Open side flanker Nick Carne scored wide out, Robbins cheekily converting with a drop kick. In the forwards, Sam Jewitt played well out of position and secured much line-out ball. The game was well over by the time skipper Tregay scored his second try of the match, but to their credit the tourists never gave up and plugged away until the final whistle. The usual post match pleasantries were enjoyed before the tourists left Truro, well beaten by the better side but with their heads held high.

TRFC U/16s 32
We took a sensibly sized squad to Dorset to stay over at this top public school before a Saturday morning fixture. Extremely well looked after, we gathered for breakfast and a walk around the impressive grounds before preparing for this high profile Pre-Season fixture. After 4 weeks of Pre- training it would be good to see the fruits of our labour. And the lads did not disappoint! Storming to an early 2 try lead, we took our foot 'off the pedal' and almost allowed our hosts to regain control. However, big games from a number of players - including new lads John Robbins, Digby Parsons and Andy Gaukroger - and a tremendous self belief saw us through the danger. Try of the match? A majestical steal on their Line-Out by Ollie B, dropped down to Sam T who linked with Matt T, before feeding the backs to put Chris away in the corner. This shattered any hopes the Schoolboys had of a recovery and sealed the game. Highlight of the trip - the carnage at Dorchester McDonalds when the boys descended en masse, ordering 'Go Large' Meals, with a side of...'Go Large' Meals. Thanks to Bernard and Bruce for sharing the CRB Adult duties, and to all parents who travelled to support.
